2024 Autumn Workshop Schedule Now Registering

I have a new slate of workshops coming up in the next few months. Later in March and early April, I have two sessions of plein air painting scheduled. Exact location to be determined but it will be in the Christchurch area.  I also have my Old Master Painting Techniques scheduled later in April and rounding things out is a Figure Drawing and Painting Workshop. Contact me for more details.

2024

Plein Air Landscape Painting:  Saturday, March 23rd and Saturday April 13, Each day from 10am – 2pm. The two sessions will be held in Christchurch, exact locations to be announced.  We will start with a demonstration on working in the landscape with all its’ particular quirks and peculiarities.  The goal is to get people working quickly and intuitively as conditions in the field change quickly.  If you think you’re too analytical and overthink your painting, this is a great workshop to loosen up!  Space is limited so email me for more information and to book your spot.  $80 per session, $150 for two.

Change of Class!!  Old Master Painting Techniques:  Saturday, April 20th and Saturday April 27th, April 20th from 9am – 5pm, April 27th from 1:15pm – 5pm. (CANCELED)

Old Masters class is no longer being held.  Two replacement classes have been added in the same time slots.

Saturday, April 20th, 10am – 2pm:  “Preparing Canvas and Boards for Oils and Acrylics”. This workshop will cover practical skills for preparing your own canvases and boards for painting.  This includes stretching canvas, applying gesso and painting on paper,  among many other topics.  Time permitting, I will also demonstrate preparing frames and cutting mats for works on paper.  This is a workshop I wish I had had in art school!  It will save you tons of money and make your materials less mysterious and intimidating. Register your interest by  emailing me though my website   $75 per person

Saturday, April 27th, 1:15pm – 5pm :  “Understanding Colour!”  In this workshop, we will do a series of exercises designed to increase your knowledge of colour theory, colour mixing and understanding the “language” of colour.  We will end with a painting of a still life designed to incorporate much of what we review in this four-hour workshop.  I’ve done very abbreviated versions of this in my individual classes at Art Metro but this will cover EVERYTHING and more!  Register your interest by  emailing me though my website. $75 per person

The above two workshops will be held at Christchurch Arts Centre/Te Matatiki Toi Ora across from Hagley Park.  Some supplies provided.

Figure Painting and Drawing:  Sunday, May 5th, 9am – 5pm.  This workshop is new and will be for any student ready to tackle drawing and painting directly from life.  This is the single most rewarding approach to increasing your observation and technical skills in drawing and painting.  The learning curve is huge!  Space is limited so email me for more information and to book your spot.$185, some supplies provided.
