2025

“Open Studio Painting Workshop”  (3 separate sessions)

Sunday, June 8th, 10am – 2pm,

Sunday, June 15th 10am – 2pm,

Sunday, June 29th, 10am – 2pm

$50 for one, $90 for two, $130 for all three

During these four hour sessions, students will bring works in progress or painting ideas.  With the paintings in front of us, we will troubleshoot any issues you have been having and do appropriately designed demonstrations that will give your paintings the nudge (or shove!) that they need to progress.  I will have all of my supplies and paintings on hand which will give us a multitude of resources to work with.  Small group critiques will also be conducted at the end of each session.  Bring your paints and brushes and of course your paintings! Additional supplies will be mailed upon registration.  Student limit is 5 so register quickly!

All Three of the above workshops held in my Burnt Hill studio outside of Oxford

Saturday, June 14th:  Oil Painting workshop. 10am-2pm.

Designed for painters of all levels this workshop will introduce many concepts particular to oil painting as well as general painting issues that will move your paintings forward.  We will cover underpainting, glazing, scumbling, modifying paint and we will even learn how to make our own oil paint!  Bring your oil paints and brushes.  Other supplies will be mailed out upon registration. Student limit: 12.

Workshop Held at Art Metro, 465 Papanui Road, Christchurch $80

Saturday, June 28th:  Painting Directly From Observation. 10am-4pm

Another workshop designed for everyone!  Using oils or acrylics, we will paint directly from a still life arranged in the studio.  Observational painting is the best and quickest way to make your paintings skills progress to the next level. Using well considered lighting and compositions we will spend most of this workshop working out the particular problems inherent to observational painting. Establishing a good painting involves understanding the drawing issues and we will start there.  Determining light and shadow, colour mixing, layering paint and a host of other issues will all be reviewed in this intensive workshop.  Bring your paints and brushes.  Other supplies will be mailed out upon registration. Student limit: 12
